Inez pulled the old pick-up truck slowly into a parking space at the Bank of America in some mid-sized town in New York state called Bayville. The old mid-90's Ford had held up quite well on the cross country adventures of Inez Temple. As the truck came to a halt, the blonde bombshell shot a sideways look in the direction of her companion, another girl whom she'd picked up a few days back. The other girl was, obviously, a mutant like herself and so Inez had decided to, in a way, take this other younger girl under her wing and look out for her. Besides, two heads and sets of eyes were always better and safer than a single set of either.
"Just a quick stop here at the bank and then we can find a place to grab a bite," Inez said quickly as she turned off the truck's engine and pocketed the keys. It was about lunch time and Inez was beginning to feel hungry, since she'd skipped breakfast, and she had the sneaking suspicion that her companion, a girl by the name of Chance was as well.
Once she'd completed her bank errand, Inez slid back behind the wheel of the old Ford. Pizza was sounding mighty tempting at the moment. Especially considering the fact that they were in New York. Pulling slowly out of the bank's parking lot the two girls cruised the town for a few moments before Inez found a place that caught her eye. Pulling into the parking lot for a place called Vinnie's Pizzaria, Inez killed the engine. "Lunch time," she declared, sliding from behind the wheel to touch down on the ground below, the spurs on her boots making a soft ringing noise as she pulled the cowboy hat on her head down a little tighter to keep it from blowing away in the slight breeze.

Chance was sitting in the passenger seat of a old mid-90's Ford, watching as her newest companion pulled into a parking space of a bank. She looked up at the bank's sign, it read Back of America. They had drove into a small town in New York. Chance had noticed the sign reading Bayville as the entered the city. She looked towards her companion, Inez, as she said that she was taking a quick stop here before they stopped to grab a bite. Chance nodded. She had really neglected to actually start a conversation with her newest companion, or even really talk for that matter. All she really said were a few yes and sure and okay. Here and there. About it. Once she knew Inez more she would most likely talk more.
It wasn't often that you would find Chance with someone else. The feline girl sat there, her hood up as always. Hiding her features. She was in her human form. No fur. No spots. No ears. No tail. Just a normal human being. Though she wasn't technically. She was a mutant. And she had guessed Inez was one too. She sat there for a couple minutes awaiting her newest companion to return. She watched as people walked and drove by the Ford. Then she found a couple minutes before Inez returned that her stomach growled. Signaling that she was hungry. It had been awhile since she had eaten. But they would grab a bite to eat soon. So that was no worry.
Then Inez returned, sliding behind the wheel of the Ford, starting the engine and then pulling out of the parking spot. Chance looked at Inez as she returned, but didn't say anything. She watched the scenery as they drove for awhile, trying to find a place to eat. Then Inez pulled into the parking lot of a pizza place. Declaring a 'lunch time' after she parked and turned off the engine. Chance undid her seatbelt, slowly getting out of the car. She stretched her legs a bit. Then she stood there, feeling the soft breeze against her face. She then pulled her hood down. No real need for it. It just kind of made her feel safe. You could now see her red auburn hair, sort of glistening in the sunlight. She made her way to the sidewalk, to walk into the pizza parlor.

Making her way to the twin glass doors of the obviously Italian eatery, Inez pulled one open and held it for Chance with a playful smirk on her features. "Come on, Pokey. I know you've got to talk some time. You've barely said a word in the two days we've been on the road." Inez darted into the restuarant and up to the host, who looked a little over-worked given how busy the place seemed to be. Right away Inez could see that there was a line, and this was both a good sign and a curse. It meant the food must be good, but they'd have to wait. "Anyway a couple of road weary girls could get a table now," she asked, leaning over the host's stand a little and blinking her eyes. She knew the boy'd be getting a bit of an eyeful, given her state of dress, but if it got them a table faster, so much the better.
"Tables in the bar are on a first come, first served basis. Otherwise the wait's about thirty minutes," the boy replied. Inez turned and shot a look over her shoulder at Chance. The other girl looked as hungry as she felt, and the bar couldn't be that bad given that it was lunch time and not happy hour. Inez flounced over to the bar and stuck her cowboy hat topped head inside. It was a bit crowded in there, but there were a couple of spots where the two of them could sit if they so desired.
"Come on, Chancey! Let's get some grub," the blonde girl declared, sliding into the bar and heading for a table near the rear. Sliding into the side of the booth that was facing towards the door Inez waited for her new found travelling companion to join her at the table. While she watched and waited, Inez plucked a menu from its spot between the wall and the napkin holder on the table and started to poke through it as her stomach rumbled again.

Chance watched as Inez held the door open for her. She held her head upon, looking infront of her. She then looked over to Inez as she spoke to her. Calling Chance Pokey and that Chance would have to speak sometime or another. Personally, she didn't really feel like talking. There was nothing to talk about either.. Chance walked inside without a word to Inez. She would talk on her own terms. She watched as Inez darted up to the waiter. Chance just stood there quietly, as Inez got them a table.
She looked around. The place was full. There seemed to be no tables, accept for at the bar. Her stomach growled softly. She was much to hungry to wait. She would take the bar. She watched as Inez went into the bar area, Chance followed her quietly. Not speaking. Her feet shuffled against the floor as she walked slowly. Her gaze fell to the ground, watching as her feet moved. She then looked up as she reached the booth where Inez had sat herself at.
She slide herself into the opposite side of the booth that Inez was sitting at, browsing through the menu. Chance picked up her own menu from between the napkin holder and the wall. She opened it. The pictures of the food making her even hungry then she already was. She didn't particularly like pizza. But it would due. Maybe something with chicken in it would due. She then looked over at Inez. Her hazel eyes looking into Inez's eyes. "Sorry that I haven't spoken much..." She said to her. "It's just. I'm not one to really speak..Let's just say it's something new for me." She added. Then returned her gaze back to the menu as she finally decided what she wanted. Cheese pizza with pieces of chicken and other meats on it, like bacon, turkey, etc.

"Well, you can't stay in your box forever," Inez replied, wrinkling her nose just a little. "Sooner or later you have to come out of it." Stopping speaking for a minute, the Texan buried her nose in the menu, looking for something good to eat. After a few minutes of browsing the blonde made her decision and closed her menu, putting it down on the table and looking around for the waiter.
As it turned out, Inez didn't have to look for long before the waiter approached their table. "Diet coke, personal pepperoni pizza, and the nachos appetizer with chicken," she said before the waiter could even ask if they were ready to order. She looked sweetly at the man and blinked her big blue eyes in his direction. Once Chance had ordered and the waiter had gone off to put their order in with the kitchen and get the drinks for the ladies Inez returned her attention to the conversation at hand. One way or another she was going to draw Chance out of her shell, if she could. "So, what exactly can you do," Inez asked, leaning forward conspiratorially. "You know, what are your powers?"
Just as Inez was asking her question a Brazillian teen of average height entered the bar area and passed by where the women were sitting. In truth, Roberto just wanted a chance to get a good look at the two attractive women that were around his own age. Looking around the bar area, the solar powered mutant picked up a table near where the girls were seated and gave the impression of watching the television in the bar while he was, in fact, listening in on their conversation to see if they had noticed his entrance, quiet as it had been. He was a bit surprised when he just barely made out a question regarding special powers. Could these women possibly be mutants like him? If so, it might be a worthwhile endeavor to introduce himself a little bit later on.

Chance closed her menu after she had figured out what she wanted. Some pizza and buffalo wings, which was really just barbecued chicken. She also just wanted water. If she was still hungry later she would order more. She didn't want to seem like a pig, ordering a lot when she first ordered. She then looked up at Inez as she said she couldn't stay in her box forever. Chance new that. That was why she was going to talk no matter how hard it was for her to.
Then as Inez began to order her food right as the waiter stood before their table. Not even saying what they wanted. She looked towards the waiter and began to order. "Cheese pizza with chicken, bacon and pepperoni on it. Chicken wings. And a water with lemons." She said to him, specifying what she wanted. Then she added, "Please." Then handed him the menu. Then as he left to get their orders her attention was turned back to Inez.
Her question was one that Chance wasn't expecting. She knew it would of come up sooner or later, but not to start off with. Especially in such a crowded place where just about anyone could over hear them. Chance looked around, and saw a man pass by. She was careful to not be found out that she was a mutant. She hated being looked at differently...
She then turned her attention to the question at hand. She thought about how to answer it. She had so many complex things about what kind of mutant she was and what she could do. "Let's just say high-speed is one." She said, softly to Inez. So that no one else could over hear what she had said. Then she said quieter then before, "Pretty much cheetah speed." She said to her, she was close enough so that she could whisper it to Inez. "You..?" She asked back. Wanting to know. And so that she wasn't the only one who had to be answering questions here.

"Me," Inez asked, looking across the table at her companion. "Well, I'm pretty strong for starters, and I can take a hit, and..." Inez trailed off and looked across the room in the direction of the bar. Seeing something on the bar she leaned forward across the table in the direction of Chance. "See that shot glass at the far end of the bar? I could hit that thing from here with a .22 pistol round without even trying. I have a few other small gifts too," Inez finished trailing off a little as the waiter returned with their drink orders and set them down in front of the girls before moving off to see to a different table in the crowded pizzaria.
Inez picked up her drink and took a sip on it before setting it back down and looking back across the table at Chance. She hadn't missed the arrival of the dark skinned boy that had the look of Mexican about him. He was sort of cute, but a little too short for Inez's particular taste. "So, where are you from anyway? What are you running away from? I kinda picked you up on the spur of the moment and don't know much about ya," the Texan continued, her nose wrinkling up a little bit as she grinned playfully.

Chance looked over at Inez as she spoke of what she could 'do'. Chance smirked as Inez pointed towards the shot glass saying that she could shoot it with a pistol from here. She then looked back at Inez, the smirk still hovering on her face. Then it faded as the waiter came back with their drinks. She picked up her glass, the coldness of the glass making her hand cold. Which sent small chills through her. Then she took a sip. It refreshed her. She quickly, gulped it down. Forgetting that she couldn't exactly do that in public, drink a whole glass of water in only a few seconds. She then placed the glass on the table and looked at Inez as she asked her another question.
Chance shrugged as she wasn't sure what she was running from. Maybe she was looking for others like her. Mutants. So that she could feel that she belonged. Even with her dad, she felt she didn't belong. She had to hide her true form... "But, I'm from Colorado.." She said to Inez, remembering the place she lived. It was home. Yet, it didn't feel like it. "I never knew what I was, until my 13th birthday...." She shook her head a bit. "Maybe I'm just looking for others like me...." She had looked down at that.
But then she looked back at Inez, "But, I have found one.." She said, a hint of a smile upon her face. She had found someone like her. Maybe there was hope in her life, for a 'normal' life. So that she didn't have to live hiding her true self. Instead, she could show her true self to others. And not have to cower in fear...? No. That wasn't it. But, the fact that she would be looked at differently.. thats what frightened her...

"Colorado, huh," Inez asked as the server returned with the nachos appetizer that Inez had ordered. Placing the food down in the middle of the table he retreated with the glasses of both women before returning a moment later, having refilled them. "Me, I'm from Texas, if ya couldn't tell," Inez continued, once the waiter was done with getting the first bit of food on the table, her nose wrinkling playfully. "Go ahead and help yourself to some of the nachos if ya want 'em. I'm not a pig, ya know!"
Having been listening in surrepticiously on their conversation, Roberto spun on the barstool where he'd seated himself. Standing, the Brazilian moved the two feet to the table the two women were standing and leaned down on it lightly on his forearms and elbows. "I couldn't help but overhearing you two lovely ladies speaking about mutant powers," Roberto said softly with a friendly smile.
