Name: Mariusz Kaczmarek
Alias (if any): Mari
Code Name: Hawk
Affiliation: X-men, though I'll need recruiting
Age: 17
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 127 pounds
Feather coloration: Brown over the legs, back, and wings; mostly brown mixed with a bit of white over the shoulders, head, face, and neck; a light speckling of black across the chest; white on the throat, chest, and torso.
Eye color: Golden Brown
General Appearance:
Mariusz is six-feet four-inches and weighs in at a mere one hundred and twenty-seven pounds due to his hollow bone structure. His entire body is covered in feathers and down, with longer feathers being one his wings and back and shorters and softer down along his chest and torso. His feathers are a dark rich brown over his legs, back, and wings; mostly brown with a bit of white mixed in across his face, shoulders, head, and neck; there is a slight speckling of black across his chest; and he is all white along his arms, chest, torso, and throat. He has golden brown eyes that are somewhat larger than a normal person's eyes. He has a wingspan of fifteen feet from wingtip to wingtip. His build is fairly muscled and quite athletic, something akin to an outside linebacker or free safety in football.
In terms of clothing, Mariusz typically prefers a minimalist approach. His feathers and down provide more than sufficient insulation in the winter, though in the very roughest of weather he has been known to bundle up by wearing a simple hoodie and jeans. Most of the time, however, the bird-man can be found wearing little more than a pair of baseketball shorts, typically gold or yellow, and a pair of Oakley sunglasses with golden lenses. Under no circumstances will Mariusz were shoes in the normal sense as his talons prevent this, though he has been known to don toe-less socks and finger-less gloves, both jet black, from time to time. Mariusz carries this same minimalist approach over to his uniform for field operations and training as well, typically opting for black shorts, black finger-less gloves, and the Oakley shades.
Personality:
Given his upbringing away from other kids and people his own age Mariusz has a very interesting personality mix. Mariusz is quite mature for his age, having been raised entirely by adults with no other siblings or people his own age. This isn't to say that he doesn't still have times when he acts like a two-year old or that he doesn't still love cartoons, merely that he speaks and writes at a higher level than most of his peers and tends to look beyond such childish things as high school drama. On the other hand, despite his maturity his interpersonal relationships with those outside his family leave something to be desired as Mariusz often has trouble in relating to those that are his own age. As a result, Mariusz tends to be very shy and reserved around others his own age and prefers to live as far away from them as is possible when living in close proximity to them. This isn't to say that the Polish boy is anti-social, he enjoys social functions just fine when they're adult social functions. However, when pressed Mariusz has displayed a strong desire to prove himself as being worthy of being seen as more than a freak of nature, but as a person who has value to the world around him. It is this drive that provides the primary motivation in Mariusz's life.
X-Factor: Mariusz can fly long distances and is capable of traversing the Atlantic Ocean without stopping to rest. He is also capable of flying to heights around 15,000 feet. If he drops from a great enough height into a dive he can come close to four hundred mph. He also has a significantly enhanced sense of vision, razor sharp talons at the end of his fingers and toes, a hollow bone structure, and the ability to emit a limited sonic shriek.
Power Explanations: With training he'll be able to fly non-stop from Seattle, WA to Sydney, Australia; shatter glass with his shriek; and reach a height of around 30,000 feet. At the moment, his flight is limited as specified above and his shriek won't do much more than cause a bad headache.
The hollow nature of his bones make them more susceptable to breaking or shattering. His lower body weight and hollow bones also affect the amount he's capable of lifting relative to his size, keeping it around one hundred and seventy pounds. Right now, it's extremely hard for him to adaquately direct his sonic shriek making it as likely to affect his teammates as not.
General Skills: Mariusz is an excellent cook, being a combination of self-taught and learning from his mother who is a world class chef. Mariusz is also bi-lingual speaking and reading both English and Polish fluently. He is also a capable singer, though he's never had any real training, he's just naturally a talented singer.
Brief History:
Mariusz was born and raised in the Carpathian Mountains of Poland. Unlike many mutants his mutant powers began to manifest themselves much earlier in life than those of most other mutants. By the age of two Mariusz had already begun to grow feathers across his body and by the age of five his wings began to develop. His parents managed to disguise the fact that their son was a mutant by moving full time to their summer residence in the Carpathian Mountain range, a home they were able to afford thanks to Mariusz's father's position of importance within the Polish Government.
Most of Mariusz's early education was handled by private tutors that were close friends of the Kaczmarek family. However, as a result of having an almost completely private education Mariusz has had almost no interaction at all with people his own age. His private education was, despite the lack of interaction, quite good and complete. Eventually, though, Mariusz had to be let out to stretch his wings and see if they were purely decorative or if they were functional. This made the family's location in the sparsely populated Carpathian Mountains ideal as it allowed Mariusz ample space to fly and stretch his wings with very little chance of him being spotted. This also helped Mariusz become more accustomed to the thinner air at the higher altitudes he is capable of reaching.
Despite the care of his parents, however, Mariusz was seen on a number of occasions while out flying. Following one such episode he was actually followed home. Overhearing the reaction of the people against him and his family as a result of his mutation the teen's initial reaction was not one of anger or sadness, but rather a desire to prove himself to the townspeople. This led to the young man being in the right place at the right time on a few occasions and gaining a small amount of local notoriety. Unfortunately such notoriety, even on a small scale, served to make the Kaczmarek family a target of Polish anti-mutant groups, despite the acts that Mariusz performed to help normal people. Following the advice of a colleague Mariusz's father, who'd been serving on the Polish President's cabinet, accepted the position of Ambassador to the United States and departed Poland with the family having heard through the grapevine that there was a school in the U.S. that was accepting of mutants such as Mariusz.
